Borderlight AB is a Swedish Telecom operator located in Uppsala. Borderlight's business idea is to design, deploy, operate and administer high-speed open network infrastructures for data communication that handle delay sensitive traffic and Best effort traffic in an efficient and secure manner while allowing


different market players to share the secure, QoS assured infrastructure to increase theirproductivity and profitability. Today Borderlight works with business development and operations of Metro Networks incorporating a powerful service platform for full triple-play services (Internet, IP Telephony, IPTV and video-on-demand). Borderlight's main customers are municipality owed public organizations, Metropolitan Network owners, real estate owners and Swedish Universities such as SUNET (Swedish University NETwork connecting 300,000 connected customers). Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan - skolan för informations- och kommunikationsteknik

The Royal Institute of Technology (Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan), KTH, is responsible for one-third of Sweden's capacity for engineering studies and technical research at post-secondary level. Our university has over 11,000 undergraduate students, 1,500 active postgraduate students and a staff of 3,100


people. KTH is a public university, mainly funded by government grants. It was founded in 1827 and it is the largest of Sweden's universities of technology.The Telecommunication System Lab (TSLab) is one of the laboratories of the KTH School of ICT, located at the KTH campus in Kista. It consists of some 20 faculty members and graduate students. They combine expertise in technology, economy, social science and social behavioral science. The lab offers an open and creative environment or research and education. The prime competence is in developing communication systems from a user perspective.

TSLab owns and/or has access to multiple test beds for communication, including fiber to the home apartment housing networks, wireless access networks and long-haul transborder optical fiber networks, including a submarine fiber connection from Sweden to Latvia.

TSLab is driving the Minisip.org project that provides an open source Secure SIP service platform. Minisip is rapidly being adopted by industry to provide primarily VoIP services. TSLab is now shifting focus for their efforts in the Minisip project towards video applications.



Telefónica Investigación y Desarrollo S.A.U.

Telefonica Investigación y Desarrollo (www.tid.es) is a company totally owned by Telefónica S.A and operational since 1988. Telefónica S.A has created Telefonica Investigación y Desarrollo to fulfill its Research and Development requirements with more excellence and profitability and to contribute to Telefónica Group competitiveness through technological innovation. Over the last years, the line of work of Telefonica Investigación y Desarrollo has evolved to conform to the objective of becoming a service creation lab. Nowadays Telefonica Investigación y Desarrollo is the most important private company in Spain devoted to R&D and very active in the following major areas:

• Services creation, related to the broadband, ADSL, intelligent network, data communications, narrow band ISDN, mobile communications, speech technology, multimedia services, and public use telecommunications,
• Network and services management, both fixed and mobile, using solutions based on the latest standards and
• Network innovation, with the purpose of supporting Telefónica in its effort to offer the widest possible range of services.

The company has also in depth expertise in formal methods, object oriented design and programming systems, software engineering tools, real time systems, data bases and knowledge bases, A.I. tool kits, knowledge representation and reasoning, man machine interface, and software tools for network simulation. Fundació Privada i2CAT, Internet i Innovació Digital a Catalunya

The i2CAT Foundation, Internet and Digital Innovation in Catalonia (www.i2cat.net), is a non-profit research organization located in Barcelona (Spain), whose mission is to promote research and innovation in advanced Internet technology at a regional, national and international level.

The i2CAT model is based on the collaboration between the public and private sectors and the academic environment, setting up an innovative “Triple Helix” model (Leydesdorff) in the ICTs..


As far as the international dimension is concerned, i2CAT participates in European programs through research networks such as GÉANT2 and technological platforms such as NEM (Networked and Electronic Media). The current European projects are HDVIPER (CELTIC), DRMSolution NG (CELTIC), PHOSPHORUS (FP6), FEDERICA (FP7), VEP (eParticipation), CO-LLAB (ICT-PSP).

The i2CAT Foundation is organized into five sector clusters: Network Technologies cluster, Audiovisual cluster, Health cluster, Education cluster, Industry cluster. The aim of these clusters is to carry out innovation projects and to deploy, evaluate and approve technologies, applications and innovative IP services.

Each cluster heads its own projects, using a common infrastructure of development called Technological Platform, consisting of the following two areas: NOC (the core of i2CAT network, constructed with an high speed network infrastructure) and MediaCAT (a multimedia laboratory with advanced audiovisual equipments).



Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center

Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) was established in 1993 by the State Committee for Scientific Research. PSNC is responsible for the management of the countrywide Polish National Research and Educational Network - Polish Optical Internet - PIONIER, built on own fibers with 10GE technology as well as POZMAN - Metropolitan Area Network in Poznan.

PSNC research activities focus on next generation networks (optical networks, QoS, IPv6, multicast, measurement), grids (resource management, data management, scheduling, middle-ware and security), digital media (meta-data, large scale content distribution and delivery, scalable access,


AAA, content presentation and value-added services, mobile access) as well as check-pointing and users management for HPC environments.

PSNC takes active part in research, funded by national and EU research programmes, participating in the following projects: iTVP (Interactive TV services over IP in the Polish Optical Internet PIONIER) - National funded, PROGRESS (Polish Research On GRid Environment for Sun Servers) - National funded, GridLab (A Grid Application Toolkit and Testbed) - FP5, 6Net (Large-scale International IPv6 Network) - FP5, HPC Europa (Pan-European Research Infrastructure on High Performance Computing) - FP6, Mupbed (Multi-Partner European Test Beds for Research Networking) - FP6 and more.

The PSNC research activities, lead to several advanced products which were developed by PSNC. These include: Gridge - enterprise solution bridging applications and grids, dLibra - digital library framework, iTVP interactive TV - countrywide content delivery system as well as application portals, tools and services for Education, eGovernment and more.

Androme Iberica S.L.

ANDROME combines Telecommunications and Multimedia engineering to develop communication technological platforms, primarily focused on revenue generation via


value added services. Our current platforms include SMS (Vasp.SMS), IP Video-telephony (IntellivicSIP) and Interactive TV (TVContentManager).

Projects which ANDROME focuses on are in the areas of telecom, information and management systems as well as e-business and interactive multimedia, computer graphics & virtual reality. In projects aiming at application or product development, automation or high-end custom software development and relying on one or more of the above mentioned focal areas.


Karolinska Institutet


Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för klinisk vetenskap, intervention och teknik

The Karolinska Institute, Institution for clinical science, intervention and technique (KI-CLINTEC) consists of 14 units; Anaesthesiology, Audionomy, Baxter Novum, Surgery, Logopedy/foniatry, Nephrology, Obstetrics/Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Radiology, Radiography, Transplantation, Urology and Ear-, nose- and throat illnesses. KI-CLINTEC's main activities are education, research, development and research training, yet in varying degree in the different units. In this project, KI-CLINTEC will use expert support from IMI and Tandberg HealthCare Norway.


• IMI; Department for Innovation and Medical Informatics is a part of the IT-forum at Karolinska University Hospital. The main area of work for IMI is to provide the hospital and its partners with cost-effective IT-solutions that enables and facilitates best clinical practice. Areas of interest are IT-architecture, -infrastructure and -logistics, and healthcare supporting IT-solutions as electronic medical records, telemedicine and patient administrative systems. IMI participates in this project mainly through Gran Ola, Method specialist Telemedicine at Karolinska University Hospital.

• TANDBERG; has been the leader in visual communication since 1987 and provides end-to-end solutions to suit organizational needs and goals. With expert sales, service, and support teams serving more than 90 countries, TANDBERG is able to implement the highest quality visual communication solutions that are reliable, easy to use and deliver significant return on investment. Tandberg HealthCare and KI/KS are currently developing support systems for advanced treatment- and decision conferences. Tandberg HealthCare's role is to participate in this project through KI and will not participate as an independent partner.


Alkit Communications

Alkit Communications AB.

Alkit Communications is a Swedish company based in Luleå and Gothenburg that develops software tools for distributed collaborative work and telemedicine, with a focus on synchronous applications, such as high quality video and audio communication, media streaming and storage, application sharing and joint visualization of data.


The company has a strong academic background and an active cooperation with universities by working through development contracts and R&D co-operation projects, as well as dealing with interactive collaborative environments for industry and health care, media and education. Alkit Communications has a leading role in the development of interactive collaborative environments based on the IETF standards, conducted in co-operation with various industry partners. Alkit Communications also has a leading role in the development of advanced telemedicine applications, based on multi-modal conferencing tools (i.e. multiple video representations from different sources, ultrasonic video and multiple audio channels).
